MUSICAL INTERLUDE      For self-motivated students

                                                   CLASSIFICATION OF TEXTS

Note:

All Chinese is difficult for Westerners because there is no relationship between the vocabulary of Western languages and Chinese.

Its tonal nature adds another dimension which one must take care to observe.

Even the simplest phrases such as, “How are you?”   “I am fine” require time to take on meaning.

Therefore any kind of category such as beginning, intermediate or advanced tend to be arbitrary for the student.

 In other words, i
f you know it, you know it.   If you don't, you don't!

Therefore, a
dvanced students can benefit from elementary stories if they do not have the vocabulary used in that story.

Also an aggressive student can tackle Intermediate or Advanced texts if they have the courage to persist.

Pinyin and audio for pronunciation, color coding and native language is there to help make every text more  accessible than every before.

In some cases it may be just as difficult to remember an elementary phrase as it is to remember a more difficult one.

We suggest that you work through the stories and allow time and repetition of texts to govern your progress rather than strive hard to memorize everything at once.

Of course, you can always take a favorite line or two to concentrate upon.

Remember, good wine takes time to mature and so does learning a new language.
